Deep Shelf Gas Project
Exploration Opportunity Offered to
the Industry
 |
|
Project Team
This is a joint
venture between Resource Development Partners (RDP) and Taia Energy,
Inc. (TEI). The JV was formed in 2002 to promote and sell its’
exploration concept and inventory of documented leads for deep gas
on the GOM shelf to the Industry.

Exploration Focus
& Scope
The primary
exploration focus of this effort is deeper gas potential on the
shelf that has been overlooked or otherwise not targeted due to risk
and technology considerations. RDP/TEI believes that deep gas on the
shelf is an emerging play in the GOM and the technology is now
available to take advantage of this potential. The exploration
concept is based on extensive experienced-based observations made
over a period of years working in the GOM. Opportunities have been
identified on the Texas and Louisiana shelf, but also extend into
the onshore.

Concept / Risk
Reduction
Specifically, the
exploration concept is very straight-forward and emphasizes a
significant reduction in sand risk through the identification of
characteristic structural elements associated with shelf edge delta
(SED) deposition. Sand risk is an important consideration especially
in the Western GOM. Thick sand sequences in excess of 100 feet thick
can be predicted with an 85-90% POS. Conclusions reached are
statistically supported. The concept applies across geologic trends
thereby providing ample “running room” for further exploration.
Identification of SED environments can point the way to other
depositional environments thereby yielding attendant exploration
plays.

Inventory
RDP/TEI is offering
an inventory of approximately 100 leads developed over the past
three and half years. A third of these leads are in the Western GOM.
Continued access to additional seismic will provide for more
inventory growth. Typical drilling depths are 16,000 to 19,000’ in
less than 250’ water depth.

Economic Impact
There is proven and
significant reserve impact associated with SED environments in
general and with the identified leads. Median reserve size of
analogue fields is 187 BCF, but examples exceed 1.0 TCF. Inventoried
leads are comparable in size to existing SED fields.

Cost Effective
Exploration
Identification of key
elements is based on available 2D seismic and supported by other
geological evidence. Leads identified on 2D can be high-graded and
subsequently refined by 3D, AVO and other methods.
Key benefits of pursuing this exploration concept are the efficient,
cost effective evaluation of large geographic areas leveraging the
use of relatively inexpensive multiple vintage 2D seismic data. This
can be accomplished with minimal manpower. This opportunity
represents a low entry cost and/or the use of otherwise idle (2D)
seismic assets.
SED opportunities also tend to “cluster” and are typically located
in areas where shallower production has been established and the
necessary infrastructure required to exploit these objectives is
already in place. This leads to lower cost, compact development
scenarios.

Timing
The changing business
environment in the GOM has created the means for companies of almost
any size to pursue this potential and at reasonable cost. RDP/TEI
has been tracking industry activity that is likely to lead to
leasing, farm out, and other business opportunities.
RDP/TEI is seeking industry support to pursue the deep shelf
potential by offering this opportunity to a partner who is
interested in expanding their position in the GOM or is looking to
establish a presence in the Gulf and take advantage of this emerging
play. Taking the advantage of the existing inventory and our team’s
experience represents a “jump start” into this high potential
emerging play.
